Our Focus as Impact Investors in Education
- Directing capital to companies who are leading technology-driven innovation in K-12, Higher Ed and Workforce Learning
- Creating opportunities for investors to realize value at a time when EdTech companies are scaling at a historical pace
- Scaling impact and positive student outcomes for learners of all ages
Investment Strategy
We concentrate on technology enabled education–K-12, Higher Ed and/or Workforce Learning.
- Seek control investments, usually in the form of preferred equity or convertible debt
- Target investments primarily between $10M and $50M, with potential for follow-on growth capital
- Focus on global growth opportunities, helping our portfolio companies scale outside the US
Impact-informed Investment Decisions
We believe in the double bottom line of both financial performance and social impact, and evaluate investments both by:
- The commercial opportunity—Is it an investment with a great risk/reward equation?
- The impact opportunity—Will it make a material impact on education and workforce outcomes?
Investment Criteria
In education, evidence of efficacy and scalability are positively correlated with superior investment returns. We will target investments in companies with a demonstrated capacity to scale, evidenced by:
- Meaningful revenue
- High growth rates
- Use of technology to drive personalization
- Durable, or adaptable, business model
